Abstract

THIS ARTICLE ANALYZES THE EFFECT OF ELECTORAL ALLIANCES ON THE SIZE OF THE LEGISLATIVE GROUP OF THE GOVERNOR'S PARTY IN MEXICAN STATES FROM 1988 TO 2006. IT SHOWS THAT PARTIES/CANDIDATES THAT FORM ELECTORAL ALLIANCES WITH THE AIM OF COMBINING VOTES TO WIN THE GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION GIVE UP SEATS IN FAVOR OF THE ALLIED PARTIES, THEREBY AFFECTING THE SIZE OF THE LEGISLATIVE FRACTION OF THE GOVERNOR'S PARTY. IT PROVIDES EVIDENCE ON THE BASIS OF THE ANALYSIS OF GOVERNORS' ELECTIONS IN THE COUNTRY'S 31 STATES AND THE FEDERAL DISTRICT.
